The Department of Commerce offers the following Research Programmes
- Ph.D in Commerce (Full Time and Part Time) and
- M.Phil in Commerce (Full Time and Part Time).
So far the Department has produced 35 Ph.D and 103 M.Phil Graduates.
PG Course Offered
M.Com (Finance and Computer Applications) &
M.Com (Finance & Accounting)
The Department introduced innovative and Job-oriented Courses,
M.Com (Finance & Computer Applications) & M.Com (Finance &
Accounting) in the University Department.
The Goal of two years (four Semesters) M.Com (Finance & Computer
Applications) & M.Com (Finance & Accounting) Programs
are to provide an opportunity to Students an exciting career in
Banking, Insurance, Finance, Software Development and Consulting
& Financial Services etc.
The Courses involve extensive Computer Application Practicals
in all the subjects of study. The courses also involve visits
to Industrial Units, Summer Training, Mini Projects, Internship
and a Major Project for four months. Since all the subjects involve
Computer Applications & Accounting the courses are Inter/Multi
disciplinary.
Objectives of the course
- To Impart thorough knowledge of concepts and application skills in finance, accounting and computer applications.
- To Deepen insights into practical applications of accounting and financial management and analysis in a dynamic business environment.
- To Develop appreciation of the interface between computer applications and other areas like accounting, financial management, Investments, financial markets, International finance, financial services and corporate strategy.
- To Encourage future accounting and finance professionals to equip themselves with the latest IT tools and techniques.
- To Develop a new body of knowledge and skill-set and make them available for seeking challenging careers in the Accounts, Finance and IT sectors.

Practical Training
The Practical Training is essential to expose the students to the Real life work situation and to strengthen the conceptual knowledge gained in the classroom. One month practical training is to be arranged during the summer vacation after the second semester. The training shall be in banking, financial institution, software companies and industrial enterprise or consultancy organizations. Candidates submit a report at the end of the training.

Internship and Project Work
As part of our regular curriculum students have to undergo four months Internship training and submit the Project at the end of the Internship training.

FREE P.G. Diploma in Derivatives Market
Compulsory free P.G. Diploma course is offered to Students who
are under going M.Com (FCA) Degree Course in the Department of
Commerce, Bharathiar University from the Academic year 2009-2010.
