To meet the challenges of emerging scenario in the Twenty first Century and to optimally exploit the new opportunities in the field of commerce, the School of Commerce was started in September 1990. The department offers Ph.D, M.Phil, M.Com (Finance & Accounting) and M.Com (Finance and Computer Applications) Degree Courses. So far this School has produced 35 Ph.D and 103 M.Phil graduates. This School has conducted 34 Refresher Courses in Commerce benefiting more than 900 Colleges and University teachers. This School has also conducted several Seminars and Conferences. It has organized a number of Workshops to revamp the Syllabus for Commerce courses. This School has conducted Computer Application Training Programs for Commerce teachers of Affiliated Colleges and also conducted many Computer Application training programs to University administrative staff and Local Fund Audit Staff. This School was also instrumental in introducing Job oriented and innovative Courses like B.Com (Computer Applications), B.Com (E-Commerce), M.Com (Finance & Control), M.Com (International Business), and M.Com (Computer Applications) and many Diploma and P.G Diploma Courses offered in Affiliated Colleges and School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University. At present there are 30 Ph.D Scholars and 17 M.Phil Scholars and 93 PG Students pursuing their studies in this School.

The department of commerce offers a new pioneering job oriented program named M.Com (Finance & Computer Applications) and M.Com (Finance and Accounting). The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity to learn and to get an exciting career in banking, insurance, finance, software development, consulting and financial services.

Students of this department gain knowledge and exposure in the area of finance and computer applications through course work, seminars, workshops, field visit, industrial training and research projects. They undergo one month institutional training during first year summer vocation and 4 months internship and project work in the fourth semester.

The department has a well-equipped computer laboratory, Smart seminar hall, high-speed Broadband Internet connection and library. Training is given in Tally, MS Office, Language software, and financial application packages for all the students admitted to this course throughout the period of study.
